Up until a few weeks ago, I'd never quilted with minky/cuddle cloth. I didn't think they made backing wide enough for it to interest me, and I refuse to piece my backing. So when I started making a quilt for a friend who'd recently had a baby, I was really happy to find 90" wide cuddle/minky backing on Fat Quarter Shop. (read more)

When I first starting quilting, I was pretty sure I could do everything I needed to do with one, single ruler. I had a 24" x 6" Omnigrip, and if I needed something cut, I figured out a way to make it happen with that ruler. It worked out pretty well, I mean I've done almost a dozen quilts now, and it wasn't until very recently (the baby quilt I'm working on now) that I purchased not one, but TWO rulers specifically to make things a little easier. So, let's talk square up rulers. Do they help enough to justify the cost, or are you only saving a little time for the expense? (read more)

If you've read my other posts, you know I'm fairly new to quilting. I made my very first quilt around May of 2018, and have since completed somewhere in the area of 10 quilts. It seems like, with every new pattern I make, I learn a new technique, so when I find something I love, I want to share it. That's why I'm talking today about the Deb Tucker V Block Ruler. The first time I needed to square up a quilt block, I was at my friend Jenny's house and she had square rulers in just about every size imaginable. Placing the square ruler over my block and trimming it up was a piece of cake. But, I don't have square rulers, and I don't want to spend that money, so what do I do? (read more)

I made a post a while back about glue basting a quilt while piecing, and followed that post up with how to glue baste a quilt sandwich. It was the first time I'd ever done it start to finish (from piecing to basting the quilt sandwich). (read more)

I know I've alluded to this story in my other quilting posts, but let me elaborate a little in this one, because my whole quilting journey started with one.simple.kit. (read more)

When my friend Jenny over at Come Quilt first accepted my plea to teach me how to quilt, I had it in my head that all I had to do was sew the pieces together, and that somehow, all the REST of the stuff would just happen, somehow. (read more)

Have I mentioned that I basically live my life trying to get the most out of doing the least? It's true. If I really hate doing something that HAS to be done, I'm going to figure out a way to make it at least more palatable, if not exactly enjoyable. (read more)

You're piecing a quilt and lamenting how much time it takes, how much thread is lost, and how many times you've been stuck with a pin. (read more) |
