She’s not on Facebook much, so I’m not worried about my mom seeing this post, but I tried to keep it under wraps for a while, it was tough! I’ll be handing it over to her in two weeks though, Christmas, or her birthday in the month's middle, probably her birthday, since I have no patience.
This is the second quilt top I did as a brand new quilter. I say that “tongue in cheek” because I’ve only been quilting for 6 months. The first top I made was for me, the second was for my mom, because I love her and she’s awesome. Also, I made it to adulthood, and having two kids of my own tells me that’s no small thing! This was beautifully quilted by Jenny Arkinson over at Come Quilt/Sewcial Butterfly. She’s amazing, the best quilting teacher ever, and such a Type A personality you know any work she does will be top notch. I love the quilt, the bamboo batting is so warm and cuddly! It’s also super thin which means the quilt will be easy to snuggle up with on the sort of cold nights we get here in Houston. The binding, well...it’s pretty bad. It’s the second binding I ever cut, and I cut it to 2", which I don’t do anymore because it doesn’t leave me enough wiggle room. Now all of my binding strips are 2.5", and I’m way happier with that. But, I cut this binding 6 months ago, long before I came to realize how bad I’d be at the detail work. That’s probably also part of the reason I’ll never sell quilts. “FOR SALE - Beautiful quilt with TERRIBLE looking binding.” I can’t imagine that would go over well. :) Happy Quilting! Ty
